The Sustainable Development Unit was established in 2014 to support the Prime Minister in the field of strategic planning and sustainable development. The Unit serves as a Secretariat to the Government Council for Sustainable Development, which is chaired by the Prime Minister and is responsible for the coordination of sustainable development policy-making among the central administrative authorities on an inter-sectoral basis. Representatives of all ministries, NGOs, parliament members, municipalities, industry, agriculture, trade unions, research, and academic society and other main stakeholders participate in the council-committees (there are nine of them) and several working groups. The Unit is currently tasked with drafting a long-ter, development strategy of The Czech Republic and is in charge of the implementation of the global development agenda (Sustainable Development Goals).
